Dennis’ Lions Review

Annual Church Visit
As per tradition the East Cocalico Lions visited a local church the night before our Charter Night. This year we had a bit of better luck with the weather and we did get to visit Peace United Church, 31 lions and family members were represented at the church service. The service was very nice and we were treated to hearing the Bell Choir. Lion Jim Moser and DG Lion Bruce Carpenter helped arrange this event at the church. We give them a special thank you for their efforts.

Charter Night
Charter Night was held Monday February 25th at Weaver Banquet Facility. A bit of a scare from the weather gods but the night was a very big success. A special thanks to the Board and to Lion Tom Lindauer It was a night that honored not only those lions with years of service and 100% Attendance, but also honors the wives of deceased members who gave their time and effort to make sure our club is what it is today. We honored each widow with a rose and a few words honoring their dedicated husbands. Entertainment was Mr. Don Lohr of the Lancaster County Speakers Bureau speaking on “The Way It Was”.

Oyster Supper
Chairperson Lion Bill Young wants to thank all those lions and their family and friends that helped make the Oyster Supper a success. Special thanks to Lion Jim Moser for his effort of making sure people were available. The event was a success even though attendance was down a little this year. There was still over 550 meals served.

Appreciation Night
Appreciation night will be Saturday April 14th at Rainbow Dinner Theatre. Doors open at 6:00 PM show/play is at 8:00 PM, the play is a comedy called “Good Bye Charlie”. Cost is $46 a person; all interested parties should contact Lion Jim Moser

Easter Egg Hunt
Spring is here and it is that time of the year color those eggs hide them and watch the children hunt for them. It is the lions club time of the year to prepare the community for our annual egg hunt. Co-chairpersons lions Ray Wolf and Phil Deibler are preparing and getting ready for us to collect eggs and donations Good Friday April 6, we meet at the “silo” and join up with our fellow Lions, Boy Scouts, Leo’s and anyone else wanting to help. We then need to meet on Saturday morning to prepare the Reamstown Park for all the children and adults. Your team captain should be contacting you shortly.

Just a Reminder

For the Good of Lionism
There was an article published in local papers that was not entirely true. So as not to offend individual lions DG Bruce had this to say:

Recently, a news article about me and DG Carl Gundrum was published in the Reading newspaper. Unfortunately, I was misquoted on an answer that I gave to a question.

The question that was asked of me was "What is one of the things that I did at the Club Level that I am most proud of". The answer I gave was that I was Proud and Honored to be part of being able to help in establishing the Leo Club at Cocalico High School. What was printed incorrectly in the paper was that I was "instrumental in establishing a Leo Club". In No way was I stating or trying to imply that I was solely in charge or even that the Leo club was my idea. Even though my biggest responsibly, be it small, was planning and putting together the Leo Charter Night banquet, I am proud that I was part of the entire process of establishing the first Leo Club in District 14-D. Again I never said that I was instrumental in establishing a Leo Club and never stated that I was the one responsible for creating the Leo club. I have always respected and admired Lion Bill Young for having the foresight to develop a Leo Club and then having the commitment and dedication of seeing it through. I have always commented on this fact when asked how Leos started in this District and how he almost single handedly started this Revolution in the District that has grown to the point that District 14-D will only be the second District in the state that will have a Leo District. I truly apologize for any ill feelings or foul taste that this misquote may have caused Lion Bill or anyone else that was a major participant of the committee that created this Leo Club. Hopefully this misquote in the Reading paper will not cause any negative feelings toward me, District 14-D or Lionism.

Happy Birthday to the following Lions
