The East Cocalico Lions Club held its annual Charter Night on Monday February 9th at Fox Chase. This marked the club's 60th year of service to its community. The club, sponsored by the Ephrata Lions Clubs, was granted its charter on February 9, 1944. President Rick Bates welcomed the members and guests. After the invocation everyone enjoyed a delicious meal. After dinner, Past District Governor Bosh Lesher presented Lion Ray Sweigart the "Daniel Walter Memorial Award". Perfect attendance awards for the year 2002-2003 were handed to 37 members. Lion Secretary Bruce Carpenter helped President Rick Bates present "Length Of Service" Chevrons to the following Lions, Bruce Carpenter, Bill Miller, Bob Weaver (10Years), Bill Young (15 Years), Craig Ebersole, Larry Maier (25 Years), and Paul Hassler (40 Years).. Entertainment for the night was provided by the Barbershop Quartet "Evening Mist". After President Rick Bates thanked all the members for joining in the club's 60th celebration. The evening ended with all singing one verse of "God Bless America".
